Payoneer and NFC: How to Enable Contactless Payment by Phone
How quickly and easily can you create an invoice with Payoneer? Learn how it helps businesses accept international payments, track them, and save time.

For Ukrainian freelancers, entrepreneurs, and eCommerce companies who already receive international payments through Payoneer, the ability to use contactless payments opens up a new level of convenience in managing funds. Integration with Payoneer NFC (Near Field Communication) technology allows you to combine card with digital wallets, such as Apple Pay or Google Pay, for contactless payments both in stores and online. Thanks to this, Ukrainian businesses can manage finances more effectively, avoid using physical cards, and significantly reduce transaction time.
How Payoneer NFC works
Contactless payment technology (Google Pay, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay)
Modern digital wallets, such as Google Pay, Apple Pay, and Samsung Pay, enable you to make contactless payments using NFC (Near Field Communication). This means that the user can pay for purchases simply by holding their smartphone or smartwatch up to the terminal. Bank card data is not transmitted directly because the system uses tokenization, i.e., creates a unique code for each transaction. This approach provides a high level of security and protection of personal data. SolutionsPayoneer NFC offers the ability to use your own Payoneer business cards for contactless payments without transfers or bills.
How to add a Payoneer card to your wallet
To start using Payoneer contactless payment, you need to add your card to a digital wallet on your primary mobile device. The process varies by platform, so let’s look at the most popular wallets:
- Google Pay. Open the application, select “Add card”, enter the details, and confirm the action via SMS or e-mail.
- Apple Pay. Go to Wallet, tap “+”, scan or enter your card details, and then confirm the addition via a verification code.
- Samsung Pay. Click “Add card” in the app and enter your details for confirmation.
After adding a card to your wallet, you can pay for purchases on your device by simply holding it up to an NFC-enabled terminal.
Where is NFC available, and what are the limitations?
NFC contactless technology primarily works in countries where the infrastructure for digital wallets and banking networks compatible with MasterCard or Visa is supported. In Ukraine, Payoneer NFC may currently be available partially through integration with Google Pay, while support for Apple Pay and Samsung Pay depends on regional agreements and card issuance regulations.
Among the main limitations:
- Not all terminals accept international Payoneer cards for NFC payments.
- Contactless payment may not be available in countries where the operation of global payment systems is restricted.
- You need a device with an NFC module and the official wallet app installed.
Despite these nuances, using Payoneer for contactless payments is a convenient and secure method for both international and everyday payments.
How to enable contactless payment via Payoneer
Why are Ukrainian freelancers and entrepreneurs who already receive international payments through Payoneer choosing contactless payments? The answer is simple — thanks to Payoneer NFC technology, you can pay for goods and services directly from your business account using your smartphone or smartwatch, without needing to withdraw funds to another account. Let’s take a look at the steps to enable this feature.
- Order a Payoneer card.
If you don’t have a Mastercard yet, you can order one in your account. Go to the section “Cards” → “Order a new card”, choose a currency, confirm your delivery address, or create a virtual card. This will become the primary contactless payment card. - Activate the card in your account.
Once your card is delivered or created virtually, activate it through your account. Enter the last four digits of your card and set a PIN and it will be readily added to your mobile wallet. - Add the card to your mobile wallet.
Use one of the following wallets: Payoneer Apple Pay (open the Wallet app on your iPhone and follow the simple instructions), or Payoneer Google Pay (through the Google Pay application). - Pay with your phone at a POS terminal.
When making a purchase, simply hold your device up to an NFC-enabled terminal. The transaction is confirmed using Face ID, Touch ID, or a PIN, depending on your phone’s settings. The system uses tokenization, so your actual card details are not transmitted. - Control payments in your account.
Track all transactions in the section “Transactions”, including contactless payments. This is convenient for freelancers and businesses that pay for subscriptions, advertising, or purchases using their Payoneer balance, while needing to maintain records for accounting purposes.
Thanks to Payoneer Apple Pay, Payoneer Google Pay, and Payoneer NFC, users can pay for goods and services faster and more securely. This solution is especially convenient for those who want to spend international funds from their account without additional conversions.
Benefits of using Payoneer NFC
The following clear benefits can be observed when using Payoneer NFC.
- Quick access to funds after they are credited. With Payoneer NFC, users can pay immediately upon receiving payment, eliminating the need for local bank transfers and the wait for funds to be credited. This is a practical option for freelancers who receive payments from international clients.
- Secure payments without a physical card. Using a smartphone or smartwatch instead of a plastic card reduces the risk of card loss or theft. Data is stored in an encrypted format, and payment confirmation occurs only after successful biometric verification.
- Multicurrency support. Users can pay for purchases in multiple currencies, maintaining the flexibility to work with customers and suppliers worldwide. This dramatically simplifies financial management for businesses operating in the international market.
- Convenience for travelers and freelancers. Contactless technology lets you pay for transportation, hotels, or coffee abroad without carrying cash or issuing local cards. The platform connects to global payment networks, allowing users to pay in almost any country.
- Fast connection to digital wallets. A Payoneer contactless card can be easily added to digital wallets, after which NFC payments become available immediately. The entire procedure takes only a few minutes and does not require additional confirmation from the bank.
- Transparent cost control. All transactions are reflected in your account in real time. You can track your funds, plan your spending, and respond instantly to any suspicious transactions.
- The optimal solution for business. Entrepreneurs use NFC technology to make purchases, travel, or pay for subscriptions directly from their Payoneer balance. Such financial processes are faster than traditional ones and incur no additional fees for individual internal transfers, provided the account supports them.
If NFC doesn’t work, what are the alternatives?
If Payoneer NFC does not work for some reason (for example, your smartphone does not support the function or the terminal cannot read the contactless signal), this does not mean you are left without access to your funds. In this situation, you can use the physical Payoneer business card, which works at all retail outlets and ATMs that accept Mastercard.
In addition, most online platforms, services, and marketplaces accept standard card payments, so all you need to do is enter the details of your Payoneer Mastercard NFC during checkout. If payment is required in the mobile app, you can add a virtual card or use a direct transfer from your account. Thus, even without the NFC feature, Payoneer users retain full access to their funds and can continue making transactions without delay.
Contactless payment security tips
You already know how to pay by phone via Payoneer, and it is worth ensuring the security of each transaction. Contactless payments are not only convenient but also responsible: you manage funds from a business account linked to international receipts. Therefore, before bringing your phone to the terminal, ensure that your device is protected, that your card data is not stored in third-party applications, and that you control all transactions through your account.
| Advice | Explanation |
| Use Face/Touch ID | Biometric authentication is the most secure way to verify your identity when making contactless payments. Be sure to enable biometrics to prevent unauthorized transactions if your phone falls into the wrong hands. |
| Don’t store card details in third-party apps | Do not enter your card details in untrusted applications or on suspicious websites. Use only official Payoneer, Apple, or Google platforms to manage your cards. |
| Check transactions in the Payoneer app | Regularly review your payment history to make sure there are no suspicious transactions. All contactless payment transactions are reflected in the app instantly. |
| Block the card if you suspect fraud | If you notice any unusual activity, immediately block the card through your platform account. This will temporarily suspend all transactions while you investigate the circumstances. |
| Keep your device’s security system up to date | Regularly update your operating system to ensure compatibility with new security standards. This is especially important for the stable operation of Payoneer NFC. |
| Learn to recognize secure terminals | Use only proven POS terminals that support certified payment systems. |
